Why Rateslip reads the page, not the file
of the real supplier documents we audited contained hidden text that contradicted the printed page, in a way that changes the price.
A PDF carries two things: what you see when it prints, and a text layer underneath that most software reads instead. Somebody corrects a quotation by pasting a new table over the old one as a picture. The page shows the new figures. The old row is still underneath, still adding up on its own terms, so nothing flags it.
Rateslip reads the rendered page the way a person does, and keeps the text layer only as a witness. Where the two disagree it shows both values, computes no landed cost from either, and says why.
Rateslip refuses to choose quietly.

What Rateslip does not do yet
This is an early product and the gaps are worth knowing before you rely on it.
- Materials only. Bundled quotations that price labour and installation together are a different problem and are out of scope for now.
- One file at a time, up to six pages. Bulk upload of a year of paperwork is not built.
- Closing the tab during the upload itself can leave a document unread. Reading runs on the server, so once it has started a closed tab or a dropped connection changes nothing. The gap is the moment between the upload finishing and the read starting: close the tab in that instant and the document waits with a Read button.
- It does not know which version of a document came first, and does not guess. Two versions of one order are called version A and version B. A control for marking which is later, or for linking a quotation to its invoice by hand, is not built yet.
- It is not an accounting record. Figures are for comparison and negotiation, not for filing.
